Inspired Breakaway BikeThe name "Soloist" kind of sums it all up: both versions of this frame (aluminum and carbon) are designed with emphasis on two things, road racing and aerodynamics. And how does this relate to this frame's moniker? Well, if you're a breakaway artist who likes to get away from the peloton as rapidly and efficiently as possible, then you are a soloist and this very likely is the frame you'd want to ride.
Like so much in the Cervelo family of products, with the exception of the R3, there is premium emphasis placed on aerodynamics. Does this pay dividends? Just ask members of the 2006 CSC Tour de France team. Despite the pre-tour elimination of team leader and overall favorite, Ivan Basso, CSC still went on to the overall team lead with the inspired breakaway tactics of members like Frank Schleck, David Zabriskie, and Jens Voigt. With their supremely lightweight and phenomenally aerodynamic Soloist Carbons, CSC team members were able to pump out massive amounts of energy--just like everyone else in the breakaway--but they were also able to expend that energy at a lower physiological cost than riders on heavier and less aero frames. If you're a GC contender, or a breakaway artist, there's probably no other pro-quality race frame better suited to your needs. It is an artful blend of a thoroughbred road-racing frame paired with the inspired aerodynamics and power transfer ability of an all-out time trial frame. |
