Heat loss through your head is an often over-looked problem in trying to maintain core body temperature. And, if your core body temperature starts to drop, your appendages will suffer first. Keeping your head and core warm will trickle down to the rest of your body: it allows your body to conserve energy by not redirecting increased bloodflow to the brain by pulling it from your fingertips and toes (the body likes to protect its most critical organs most!).
