The Cyfac Postural System Advantage
In the world of high end bikes one brand stands clearly above the rest for custom frame design and research. No other frame builder invests as much time and money into the art and science of "sur mesure," or, "made-to-measure" frames as Cyfac.
Since Cyfac's inception 30 years ago, this small French company in the Loire Valley has remained true to the principles of its founder, Francis Quillon, who started building frames for the leaders in the European peloton. In no time Quillon's skills and genius were recognized and he was being requested by the likes of Guimard, Hinault, and Fignon to build their bikes. Francis had an inherent understanding of how bodies and bikes work together, and instead of just designing frames that were "light and stiff," he looked instead at each individual rider and inferred how human and machine could work together for optimized performance.
The tradition that started more than 25 years ago continues today. Now, Francis, together with Matthieu Papin, a Ph.D. in Sports Physiology and Cycling Ergonomics, continues to design and build the finest bikes in the world. During his Ph.D. dissertation research studies on performance and endurance cycling, Papin placed particular emphasis on the strong correlation between power, oxygen consumption, energy delivery systems, and ergonomics. Drawing on complex data from over 4,000 cyclists who each repeated 10 tests over a one year span, Papin started extrapolating results which culminated in the design of the optimal bike frame designing system: the Cyfac Postural System (the name is a bit of a misnomer as Cyfac did not in fact develop the Postural System; Matthieu Papin in conjunction with his dissertation advisor invented the system).
The Cyfac Postural System is a comprehensive measuring tool to ensure that you get the perfect frame construction and geometry. The System takes into account not just physical measurements, but other crucial bits of information including your ride history, annual mileage, morphological discrepancies, recurring pains, and your overall cycling objectives. Cyfac maintains that they design bikes for use in the real world, and as such, they eschew placing too much emphasis on wind-tunnel testing and aerodynamic positioning. While they maintain that these factors are on some levels important, and they do exhaustive testing and CAD design for all their frames, they still maintain that, ultimately, it is more important to comfortably and efficiently generate power on a bike that works with its owner.

No other frame maker in the world works so closely with academics, professional cycling teams (Like Cofidis and Bouygues Telecom), metallurgists, and information technology experts. All of their research and study is condensed into one tool--the very tool Cadence uses to design custom frames.
